Omaha Beach is undoubtedly the most famous of the five Normandy landing beaches. Nicknamed 'Bloody Omaha', this is where American casualties were heaviest on June 6, 1944.
On our tours, we often start with the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer. It is a poignant memorial overlooking the beach, where over 9,000 soldiers rest. The silence there contrasts sharply with the violence of past battles.
What you will discover:
- Remnants of German fortifications (Widerstandsnest).
- The Les Braves monument.
- The heroic history of the Rangers and the 29th Infantry Division.
Understanding the topography of the site helps to realize the feat accomplished by these young men. It is an open-air history lesson that I strive to transmit with respect and precision.
